Poetic Thoughts 02.09.2012
Gravity
I was listening to “Gravity” by John Mayer today while waiting at the shuttle stop and it got me thinking. It’s a great song, you really should listen to me, but today it inspired me to write a bit of poetry. I hope you enjoy it, I mean it’s pretty rough since I just wrote it and then posted it up here, but please read and enjoy.
Is working hard
To bring me down today
Making all my leaps of faith
Fall short
Trapping me where I stand
Making my legs heavy
And my head hang low
Instead of diving for the stars
I’m falling on cement
This grey pavement is my the payment
For flying too close to the sun
To soar is only a leap away
Yet gravity keeps me grounded
And the clouds just out of reach
Though it takes effort
I point my eyes to the skies
It’s lush fields of white
Amid ocean blues
Unmappable in its ever changing face
Fierce in its untamable spirit
Yet it’s breeze caressed my check like a lover
Gravity is the villain
Restricting me from her
Like the tether to the ball
I stretch my boundary
Tension my natural state
Building
Reaching
Climbing
Until
Like the clap of thunder
Gravity itself slips up
And snaps
And I’m free to roam the clouds
As more than a bird
But as a gust of wind
Going and blowing where I please
I long for the day to be free
Of the shackle that is gravity
Holding me hostage against Mother Earth
Until I reach the skies where I’ll find rebirth.
