Dear future love,
Valentines Day is quickly coming up, and for me that day is always the hardest of the year. Its the day I wonder if I’ll ever get to spend a day like that with you, to know what it’s like to have someone to truly spend my valentines day with. I just wish I knew where to find you. Till then I’ll try to keep my head up.
Love,
Me
Love Is…
Love is what makes poetry an amazing thing. Of all the emotions, it’s gotta be the one poets draw inspiration from the majority of the time. I don’t know about you, but I’ll never be tired of love poetry, especially when it comes to writing it, so here’s a little something I wrote on my phone:
Love is…
Love is
Something so unbearable
So completely indescribable
All but inescapable
A sickness that’s incurable
And everyone’s susceptible
A force that’s unstoppable
A feeling unmistakable
Completely unlock-able
It’s even downloadable
It’s musical, it’s lyrical
It’s everyone’s favorite miracle
It’s biblical, it’s radical
Its why we are animals
It shows we are comparable
That we can be lovable
And terrible
It’s beautiful
It’s unusual
It’s everything that’s wonderful
So complex it’s intellectual
But every second is unforgettable
Smooth and oh so sexual
Sensual and spiritual
More than hypothetical
Every wish intentional
Rare yet inevitable
Even if it’s predictable
It’s descriptions are plentiful
Repetition is unintentional
I hope my intent here is detectable
Maybe I am a bit obsessional
But this is my confessional
It’s incredible
It’s chemical
It’s always sensible
It may not be edible
But who cares?
Its love
You know what I hate? Like, a lot? I hate it when women are treated like objects. I hate it when they are talked about like they’re some dudes property. I hate it when women are objectified, like they are a disposable object. When they are forced into something. When guys make assumptions about what they’ll do because they are women. When a guy expects his girlfriend to side with him on everything merely for the pathetic reason of, “she’s my girlfriend.” Like they aren’t what they are, a living, breathing, life giving human being. I hate it.
Every time I see it, in my head I just think, “come on man, can’t you be better then that? Can’t you show some respect? Don’t you got a brain?”
It really pisses me off. And what’s even worse is that it’s everywhere! I mean, ads encourage it, the internet makes it easy to do, music, television, video games, movies, magazines, its just all over the place. I mean listen to the radio for 10 minutes, and your bound to hear a song about “bitches” and “gettin some.” And as much as I love hip hop music, sometimes I’m just ashamed of how, even the women write songs about objectifying women. When you see just how widespread it is, its no wonder people don’t really complain about it all that much. It’s sad to say that it’s probably why some women find a jerk attractive. We’re taught to find it slightly acceptable, or funny, rather than the degrading act it is.
Take today for example. On facebook a guy posted up, “we might be brothers and all, but I’ve been trying to get at this girl for awhile…you might like her, but you’re gonna have to back off or your ass is mine, get it?”
I looked at this and thought at first, go for it bro, you want her you gotta go out there and get her. But then I stopped and thought about it. Go out there and get her? What is she, a new jacket? A treasure chest berried out somewhere? Ok, I’ll admit, maybe this isn’t the best example, but how many times in your life have you seen two guys fight over a girl? Two guys fight over this chick, expecting one to win when really the one thing I wish someone would ask is, “hey here’s a crazy idea, why not let THE GIRL decide?!” After all, she is the one who will end up being the girlfriend here. Why do us guys always treat these situations like a battle to the death? Like hey, if we can eliminate our competition, we’ve gotta win? What ever happened to letting your actions speak for you? Instead of treating her like a prize, why not treat her like a person and let her choose for herself, and RESPECT HER DECISION!
Honestly, respect it dude! Fuck the fucking bro code and why not show a little more care for the girl instead? Be a gentleman and let love take it’s course. I mean, look at what your really saying: two guys like a girl, girl wants to be with one of em but before she knows it, one backs off cuz the other told him to. Basically by doing that, your telling the girl, “hey, you don’t really get to make a choice here cuz I know better than you, and I think you should be with me.” There’s a difference between going for it, and forcing your way, and in matters of love, all to often they get mixed up.
I’m not going to say all this stuff without admitting to my own faults. Yeah, you know what, I’ve done it too, time and time again. Lust is a horrible thing that can drive both guys and girls to do not so smart things, and I’ll admit with my own bits of shame that I’ve given in on multiple occasions, but that doesn’t change what I’m saying or what I believe. It’s wrong. It’s not right, and it is up to us as guys to, pardon the pun but, be the better men here and stop. Stop trying to decide stuff for a girl and actually let them pick. A gentleman shouldn’t stand in the way of two people trying to get together since, well, that gives you a whole lot in common with almost every Disney villain in history.
Don’t be a guy and win a girls heart with threats. Be a gentleman and win a girls heart with who you are. Put yourself out there for her to see, and if she doesn’t pick you, then I’m sorry bro, really I am. No one wants a broken heart, or to see the work they’ve put into something go up in flames. But sometimes things just have to go up in flames in order to make room for something greater to be built in its place.
